Clinical trials and Research Activities

            We have been involved in several research activities since the establishment of the centre. Presently, the 4th floor of the hospital is equipped with the state of the art equipment for pharmacological studies, where routine phase 1 and 2 clinical studies on both anti-neoplastic and other drugs are performed. The Kasturba Hospital also has a tie up with the Acunova group, and numerous national and international multicentric trials are being conducted.
Also, in coordination with the department of Radiobiology, the hospital is strongly involved in animal studies and clinical research.

Ongoing Clinical trials:
Patients with the following malignancies are being recruited for clinical trials presently:

  1. Relapsed or refractory Follicular B-cell Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
  2. Anaplastic Thyroid carcinoma.
  3. Multiple myeloma.
  4. Locally Advanced and/or Metastatic breast cancer.
  5. Second line treatment in Advanced or Metastasic Non Small Cell Lung Cancer.
  6. Early stage breast cancer not over expressing HER-2 and estrogen receptor.

Ongoing Projects with Research grants:
1. Laser Spectroscopy Studies as Predictor of Tumor Response to Radiation Therapy in Cervical Cancer.
2. Evaluation of the DNA damage in the cultured peripheral blood lymphocytes of head and neck and esophagus carcinomas as the predictor of response to radiotherapy.
3. Breast Cancer Screening Programme.
4. Pain & Palliative Care Programme.
5. Shirdi Saibaba Cancer Care Endowment Fund Project.
6. Effect of low level Helium-Neon Laser Therapy in the prevention and treatment of radiation induced Mucositis in head and neck cancer patients-A Randomized control Trial.
